The Health Promotion and Wellness Department
We offer individual and group education on a variety of health topics, presentations for student organizations and classes, special health awareness events, and resources for students with academic projects. Sexuality and Reproductive Health
Individual sessions and group educational programs are available on reproductive health, sexually transmitted diseases, contraception, HIV infection and AIDS, and safer sex practices.
Student Health advisory Council (SHAC)
The SHAC is the official voice of the students regarding the quality and delivery of health services. It serves as a liason between the student body and the SHC administration. Members of the SHAC present student concerns and suggestions to the SHC administration, develop channels for continuous feedback regarding services, review and make recommendations relating to policies and procedures that impact student health, and formulate and recommend new ideas and programs that will enhance the quality of services for the UA student body. Health Promotion Resources
We have a collection of books, videos, brochures, handouts, and pamphlets that are available to students. Limited quantities of brochures are available for class or group presentations. A good description of what should be in a well stocked medicine cabinet.
Alcohol and Drug Education
We offer a number of workshops and awareness programs about alcohol, drugs and related issues. Topics include tips for responsible drinking, alternative activities to drinking, sex under the influence, and physical effects of alcohol and drug use.
Eating Disorders
We have a variety of resource information and materials availalbe on topics related to eating disorders. The department also coordinates education and awareness programs on the issue. In addition, referrals can be made to appropriate providers for students seeking assistance with various types of eating disorders.
Nutrition
Individual consultation is available with a Nutritionist. Group sessions on healthy eating and weight management are also offered periodically. The dietitian is also available for group presentations on a variety of topics related to nutrition. Appointments with Nutritionists are scheduled by appointment office at 348-2778.
